tijuana airport
from san diego area
Quick comment; the best way to get to the Tijuana Airport is from the Otay Mesa border crossing, as shown on the video above. But most people prefer to go through San Ysidro border crossing over Otay Mesa border crossing for personal reasons or for lack of information.
Otay Mesa border crossing is only a 4-mile drive to the airport in comparation to San Ysidro border crossing which is 8 miles away from the airport. Otay Mesa border crossing is less crowded at all times.
How far is Tijuana airport from San Ysidro border crossing?
Tijuana airport is about 8 miles south-west of San Ysidro border crossing. Driving appproximate time in Tijuana to the airport is about 20 minutes during normal commute hours and about 35 minutes during peak time hours.

Both the I-5 south and the I-805 south will take you to San Ysidro border. The I-805 south will merge with the I-5 south about 1 mile north of the San Ysidro border as shwon in this map.
At
the border, drive across and pay atten-tion for a red or green light as you
drive across. Red means vehicle inspection. Green means go. But sometimes
you will still be pulled over for a vehicle inspection even if you get a
green light.
Once you drive thorugh customs, drive forward and stay on the far right lane and watch for a freeway-type sign that reads AEROPUERTO. This road will take you through Zona Rio area on Paseo de Los Heros street. Make a right on Bulevard Cuauhtemock and drive up to Bulevard Aeropuerto and make a right turn onto this boulevard. You will see the Tijuana airport on your right side. Again, it is a lot easier if you get to the airport through Otay Mesa border.
